Margaret Cassar

Sustainable Development, Environment and Climate Change

Margaret Cassar was appointed Director General within the public service in 2018. An economist by profession, she has vast experience in the field of public policy. Margaret Cassar joined the public service in 2006 as Economics Officer within the Economic Policy Department whereby she has contributed towards various key cross-cutting policy initiatives including in the fields of industry and SMEs, recreational and culture. She was also involved extensively in the EU Budget and EU funding as she was a member of the negotiating team.

Margaret Cassar was appointed Director for policy development and programme implementation in 2014 whereby she led the Directorate in developing policies at national, EU and international levels across various areas along her terms in headship positions including environment, climate change, agriculture, and fisheries, planning and construction, energy, and enterprise. In 2017, she led the Directorate in executing a key role during the Maltese Presidency in the AGRIFISH and Environment Council formations.
